Frequently Asked Questions

For a family of 2-3 people, a 2-3 litre pressure cooker is sufficient. Families of 4-5 people should opt for a 3-5 litre cooker. For larger families or batch cooking, a 5 litre or larger pressure cooker is recommended. Consider cooking rice, dal, and meat in larger quantities when choosing your size.

Aluminium pressure cookers are lighter, heat up faster, and are more affordable. Stainless steel pressure cookers are more durable, healthier (no metal leaching), and last longer. Hard anodised pressure cookers offer a good middle ground — they're lighter than steel but more durable than regular aluminium. For long-term health and durability, stainless steel is the better investment.

Look for the ISI mark (the logo with an IS number) stamped on the body of the pressure cooker. The ISI certification number should be clearly visible. Always buy ISI certified pressure cookers for safety — this mark ensures the cooker has passed rigorous quality and safety tests by the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Only stainless steel pressure cookers and some hard anodised cookers with specially designed induction-compatible bases work on induction cooktops. Regular aluminium pressure cookers are not induction compatible. Always check the product label or specifications to confirm induction compatibility before purchasing.

Replace the pressure cooker gasket every 12-18 months, or sooner if you notice steam leaking from the sides during cooking. A worn gasket reduces cooking efficiency and can be unsafe. Always use original brand gaskets for proper fit and safety. Check the gasket regularly for cracks, hardening, or deformation.
